This session will provide a practical and engaging overview of public precaution requirements under the Building Regulations 2018, with a focus on applying best industry practice in the design of temporary precaution measures that protect the public during construction and demolition activities.
While the session includes an overview of the City of Melbourne Code of Practice for Building, Construction and Works as a leading example, the principles discussed are applicable across a broad range of municipalities and project environments.
The webinar explores design requirements for hoardings, gantries, scaffolding and associated public protection measures, with a strong focus on maintaining public safety, accessibility and minimising disruption in public spaces.

This course is suited to building surveyors, inspectors (including assistants), builders, engineers, project managers and other construction professionals involved in managing public safety during building work across all Victorian municipalities and similar regulatory environments.
Anita Dorfer-Mehanic is the Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor at the City of Melbourne, with over 22 years of experience in building surveying across private practice and all levels of government – Local, State and Federal.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Building Surveying, a Certificate in Performance-Based Building and Fire Codes and a TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
As a registered Building Surveyor Unlimited, Anita brings extensive expertise in enforcement and municipal building control.
She is deeply committed to the safety of building occupants, the public and emergency services personnel, and plays an active role in shaping industry standards.
Anita is an Accredited Member of the Institute Australian Building Surveyors, a Committee Member of the Victorian Municipal Building Surveyors Group and a Committee Member of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee – nominated by the Municipal Association of Victoria and appointed by the Minister for Planning.
