The latest authorised version of the Building Act 1993 has now been published, incorporating amendments as at 1 July 2026. Members are encouraged to ensure they are referring to Authorised Version No. 148 when reviewing or applying provisions of the Act.
The Building Amendment (Building Manual) Regulations 2026 have now been released, with new building manual requirements to commence from 1 February 2027. VMBSG encourages members and industry practitioners to review the notice of decision and authorised regulations.

In a Building Appeals Board matter heard on 28 May 2026, Weir Legal & Consulting acted for the Council in relation to safari structures constructed at a registered caravan park in Bright. The Board determined that the structures are not moveable dwellings and are therefore not exempt from the requirement for a building permit.
