The Building Amendment (Building Manual) Regulations 2026 have now been released, with new building manual requirements to commence from 1 February 2027. VMBSG encourages members and industry practitioners to review the notice of decision and authorised regulations.
Important amendments to the Building Act 1993 have expanded the powers of relevant building surveyors where land has been significantly compromised by events such as landslides, flooding, coastal erosion or retaining wall failure.

In a Building Appeals Board matter heard on 28 May 2026, Weir Legal & Consulting acted for the Council in relation to safari structures constructed at a registered caravan park in Bright. The Board determined that the structures are not moveable dwellings and are therefore not exempt from the requirement for a building permit.
