Inspection Record Lodgement – Regulation 173A
The VMBSG Committee wishes to advise members that a written submission was provided to the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) in June this year expressing concerns regarding the revised lodgement requirements. The submission highlighted the significant workload implications and associated costs that the changes are expected to impose on councils.
The Committee’s submission suggested that inspection record lodgement would be more appropriately managed through the BAMs platform, as this would require a single system change rather than separate process changes across numerous councils. This approach was considered a more efficient and consistent solution for all stakeholders.
Unfortunately, the concerns raised in the submission did not result in any amendment to the proposed changes, and the new lodgement process has proceeded.
Accordingly, councils may wish to consider expressing their concerns regarding the limited consultation undertaken in relation to a regulatory change that places additional administrative and financial burdens on local government.
Feedback sent by VMBSG to the Department of Transport and Planning is available to VMBSG Members in the Member Resources area.
