New inspection record requirements will have significant administrative implications for councils

The Council Support team have prepared an information sheet to inform of the changes to the Act and Regulations coming into force next Tuesday 1 September 2026. 

The information is designed to provide an overview of the changes and potential impacts noting that the new regulation 173(A) will see a significant increase in administration due to the introduction of the requirement for RBS’ to give inspection records to councils within 7 days of the inspection. 

Consideration as to how these documents are to be lodged, named and stored will be required.  Regulation 173(B) allows the Authority (BPC) to request these documents from councils, hence planning to ensure they are easy to retrieve on request will assist to reduce the burden in future.  It is appreciated that the volume of documentation will significantly increase for many councils and we have already received some feedback in this regard.
