This online training session, presented by Vujan Krunic and Simone Holding from Maddocks Lawyers, will provide VMBSG member councils with a practical overview of section 64 and section 68 of the Building Act 1993, together with relevant considerations under the Building Regulations 2018. Maddocks has prepared a policy and procedure document, along with supporting templates, to assist Victorian councils when considering applications for temporary occupation approvals under section 64. The document outlines the purpose of the process, the regulatory framework, the exercise of discretion, safety and amenity considerations, application procedures, conditions, written approvals, record keeping, refusals, amendments, cancellations and appeals. The session will step through the documents and explain how they are intended to be used in practice. Vujan and Simone will also work through several real-life scenarios and discuss common issues that may arise for Municipal Building Surveyors and council teams. The session will conclude with a Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to raise questions and discuss practical examples from their own council experience.
