The next VMBSG Women’s Network Professional Development Session will be held at the Surf Coast Shire Offices in Torquay on Wednesday 27 May, from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
With the theme Technical Insights and Case Studies, this session will offer a practical program designed to support municipal building surveyors, building inspectors and council building teams in their day-to-day work.
The VMBSG Women’s Network provides an empowering community for women working in all positions within building departments across local government, including technical, administrative and leadership roles. Its purpose is to support connection, development and growth, while promoting the advancement and retention of women in the building regulatory industry. Importantly, the Network also welcomes men, gender-diverse individuals and allies, recognising that everyone has a role to play in supporting equality across the profession.
This Torquay session will provide a valuable opportunity for council building teams to come together in person for practical professional development, discussion and shared learning.
The program will include topics relevant to local government building control, including:
- the obligation of a building surveyor to calculate the cost of building works under the Building Act
- a POPE case study
- complex building permits and a case study
- swimming pool enforcement, from initial identification through to registration, certification and the follow-up process
- report and consents, including public precautions
- a Building Appeals Board case study
- identifying subject buildings
These in-person sessions are designed to support practical learning and meaningful professional connection. They provide an opportunity to explore current issues, share experiences, ask questions and build stronger links with peers working across local government building control.
