Members are advised that the latest authorised version of the Building Act 1993 has now been published on the Victorian legislation website.

Authorised Version No. 148 incorporates amendments to the Act as at 1 July 2026 and is the current in-force version of the Act.

The Building Act 1993 remains a key piece of legislation for Victoria’s building regulatory system, including building permits, occupancy permits, enforcement provisions, building notices and orders, building surveyor functions, practitioner regulation and broader building administration matters.

Members are encouraged to ensure they are referring to the current authorised version when reviewing or applying provisions of the Act.
