Supporting clearer reporting of professional engineer non-compliance to Consumer Affairs Victoria
Consumer Affairs Victoria has provided VMBSG with a complaint form to support the reporting of potential non-compliance involving registered professional engineers.
The form is designed to help Consumer Affairs Victoria understand the potential breaches being reported and identify the supporting documentation provided with each complaint. This may include concerns relating to an engineer’s registration, endorsement or compliance with their professional obligations.
Providing clear and complete information will assist Consumer Affairs Victoria to assess the complaint and determine whether further action may be required.
Making a complaint
Consumer Affairs Victoria asks that the following steps be completed for each complaint:
- Complete a separate complaint form, providing as much information as possible.
- Attach supporting documents that help identify or demonstrate the potential breaches.
- List the supporting documents within the complaint form.
- Email the completed form and all supporting documentation to the Consumer Affairs Victoria Intelligence team at [email protected].
Consumer Affairs Victoria applies a harms and risk-based approach when assessing complaints. Matters involving clear or significant harm and risk may be prioritised, with the supporting documentation forming an important part of the assessment.
Following an initial assessment, Consumer Affairs Victoria may contact the person making the complaint to request further information. Information provided may also be used to monitor the individual being reported or may lead to an investigation or disciplinary action.
Consumer Affairs Victoria works collaboratively with other relevant regulators and may share information with those regulators where appropriate to support compliance and regulatory action.
VMBSG members who become aware of potential non-compliance involving a professional engineer are encouraged to use the complaint form and provide as much relevant information and supporting evidence as possible.
